Hemp oil, also known as hemp seed oil, is a clear green oil made by cold-pressing hemp seeds. It is different from cannabidiol (CBD) oil, which is an extract of the cannabis plant and utilizes hemp flowers and leaves for its production. Hemp oil is rich in nutrients and essential fatty acids, making it a valuable ingredient for skin care products and dietary supplements. It contains a high concentration of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids in a ratio of 3:1, which is considered a balanced and optimal range for human health. These fatty acids contribute to the maintenance of healthy cell membranes and promote skin health. Moreover, hemp oil is a good source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which has anti-inflammatory properties and may help with conditions such as atopic dermatitis. Additionally, hemp oil is often used in food preparation for its nutty flavor, and because it is high in unsaturated fats, it should not be used for frying or high-heat cooking. Despite its many benefits, hemp oil does not contain significant amounts of CBD or tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component of cannabis, and therefore does not produce any intoxicating effects. The production and sale of hemp oil are legal in many countries, provided it is derived from hemp varieties that are low in THC. Research continues to explore the full range of benefits hemp oil may offer, both nutritionally and therapeutically.
