Cannabigerol, often abbreviated as CBG, is one of the many cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Unlike its more famous counterparts, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol), CBG is present in lower concentrations in most cannabis strains. It is considered a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, meaning it does not produce the “high” associated with THC. CBG is sometimes referred to as the “mother of all cannabinoids” because other cannabinoids are derived from cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), an acidic form of CBG. Early research into CBG has suggested potential therapeutic applications, such as possessing anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and neuroprotective properties. Its ability to interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which is involved in regulating a variety of physiological and cognitive processes, makes CBG a compound of interest for further scientific study and potential pharmaceutical development. However, due to its relatively low concentration in cannabis plants and the limited research currently available, the full spectrum of CBG’s effects and benefits is not yet fully understood.
